Using ultrasound to predict fat deposition in growing lambs of different South African sheep breed types

چکیده
Subcutaneous fat (SF) and Longissimus thoracis et lumborum muscle (LM) depths of growing lambs from six breeds were monitored. Ram ewe Dohne Merino, Dormer, Dorper, Meatmaster, South African Mutton Merino White Dorper reared together under optimal feedlot management conditions subjected to ultrasound scans every fortnight the point when attained 20 kg body weight up until 300 days age. Exponential linear functions fitted describe change in SF depth, using age respectively, while power curve was LM depth. Moderate good fits achieved for models describing increase depth various production groups with (R2 = 0.48–0.72) or 0.53–0.78) as predictor. These curves showed that hair sheep are early maturing relative wool breeds, should thus be slaughtered at lower live weights achieve uniform levels carcass fatness.

Deposition of copper, iron, manganese and zinc in the empty body of growing lambs of the breed German Merino Landsheep.
A growth experiment with 108 lambs (breed: German Merino Landsheep) was carried out to examine the effect of gender, body weight (BW) and feeding intensity on the deposition of Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn in the empty body (whole animal minus contents of the gastrointestinal tract and bladder). The lambs (50% female and 50% male animals) were fed at three feeding levels ('low', 'medium' and 'high' by var...

Our objective was to determine whether breed differences existed in response to exposure and treatment of virulent foot rot. orset (DS), 1/2 Dorper (DX), 3/4 or greater Dorper (DO), Gulf Coast Native (GC), Katahdin (KA), and St. Croix (SC) mature heep and lambs were exposed to virulent foot rot in spring 2003. Treatment for foot rot was initiated in 132 lambs and 262 mature heep in late July. T...
متن کاملSheep breed type effects on plasma thyrotropin, thyroxine and testosterone in growing ram lambs under hot climate
Received 9 September 2011, accepted 6 January 2012. Abstract The lack of knowledge about different physiological responses among indigenous sheep breeds raised in arid hot regions promoted the researcher to monitor a metabolic and a reproductive hormone in male lambs of two common breeds in Saudi Arabia. Forty eight growing male lambs (age 3-5 months) were grown in a private farm for fattening ...
متن کاملUsing real-time ultrasound and carcass measurements to estimate total internal fat in beef cattle over different breed types and managements.
The objective of this study was to re-evaluate our previously published technique of estimating total physically separable internal fat (IFAT) in beef cattle using real-time ultrasound (RTU) and carcass measurements from live animals by including more breed types and genders under different management scenarios. We expanded the original database and performed additional analyses. The database w...
متن کاملEffects of Different Fat Sources in Finisher Diet of Broiler Chickens on Performance, Fat Deposition and Blood Metabolites
The aim of this experiment was to assess the effects of using saturated fatty acid (SFA) and some unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) sources in finishing period on performance, fat deposition and blood metabolites of broiler chickens. One hundred and forty four 28-d old male broiler chickens were randomly assigned to 4 treatments and 6 replicates in a completely randomized design. Four isocaloric/iso...
